Violin Lessons For Kids or Adults

Violin Lessons For Adults in Brooklyn

We love working with adult amateurs at Williamsburg Music Studio, and we would love to hear from you. Do you want to enrich your social life with music? Play at home by yourself in the evenings? Or participate in a local community chamber music group? Please let us know.

Our private violin teachers tailor the lesson materials specifically to your goals, and you will never feel like you are being squeezed into a box. We can help you learn classical playing, pop, rock, or country, and we will respect your time and give you as much practice material as your schedule allows.

Violin Lessons For Kids in Brooklyn

We help children embark on a lifetime of music-making at Williamsburg Music Studio. They will learn how to read notes, count, play music by ear, play with perfect and healthy technique, and collaborate with others.

We make our violin lessons for kids fun and engaging – your child won’t want to quit. That said, we prioritize excellence at every turn, and we don’t water down our teacher material.

Violin Techniques You Can Learn

You will, of course, learn how to hold the instrument, tune the violin, maintain your bow, and more. We’ll also focus on beautiful sound production from day one – it’s not like the piano, where you simply need to depress a key.

But after we have covered the basics, we will work on double stops (playing two notes at once), trills, vibrato, spiccato, pizzicato, harmonics, and so much more.

Frequently Asked Violin Questions

Are Private Violin Lessons Worth It?

Yes, private violin lessons are worth the investment for aspiring violinists of all ages. You can teach yourself bits and pieces on YouTube, with books, or elsewhere, but the most holistic education will always come from an experienced teacher. You will also learn much faster with a teacher, since they know what efficient progress looks like and can guide your learning accordingly.

Learning the violin will allow you to enjoy music at home, in a worship setting, in a band with friends, in a chamber ensemble, or even in a civic orchestra of your peers. Our students overwhelmingly find that their social and artistic life is enriched through violin lessons.

How Long Should Your Violin Lessons Be?

Young students will benefit from brief 30 minute lessons. We realize that a child’s attention span is short, and the last thing we want to do is force an elementary student into a long 45-60 minute lesson. We want children to associate the violin with fun and discovery, not tedium.

As a student progresses, we will need to hold 45 or 60 minute lessons. This is because there are finer technical elements to rehearse, longer violin repertoire to analyze, and more.

Do We Use Methods In Our Brooklyn Violin Lessons?

Depending on your goals (or those of your child), the Sevcik, Schroeder, Wohlfardt, or Suzuki method may be appropriate. We also use our vast knowledge of graded violin literature to assign real music that students love to play, no matter how new you are to the violin!
